Get Ahead of the Carve with Post-Pumpkin Season
With Halloween over, many pumpkins will be taken to landfill, adding more waste to the planet, rather than being disposed of in an eco-friendly way, or used to bake delicious treats.
Why not try the below options?
Compost your Pumpkin
Things to know:
Composting your pumpkin is a great alternative to landfill as it will decompose between 8-12 weeks, depending on the size!
Pumpkin flesh will compost down fast if you cut it into pieces. If you’ve got a whole pumpkin to compost, cut it into chucks and remove the seeds otherwise you’ll have a garden full of pumpkins next year (however, don’t throw the seeds out, they can be used for roasting or for bird treats!)
How to Compost:
- Make sure the pumpkin is clean, and remove any decorations
- Take out the seeds and other non-compostable parts
- Cut it into pieces, preferably small
- Add the pieces to your compost bin, along with some dead leaves
- Leave to decompose
