How to Care for your Carbon Steel Wok

Step by Step Guide

Follow our tips to help keep your wok in tip top condition.

  • Position wok centrally over heat source.

  • Do not over heat your wok, use medium heat for pre- heating and then reduce to a lower heat to maintain a brisk frying rate.

  • Use metal, wooden, silicone, heat resistant nylon or bamboo utensils.

  • Do not leave food in your wok to cool, transfer it to a non-metallic dish.

  • Sauces with a high acidic content such as vinegars should be cooked in a separate pan and only added to your wok just before you're ready to serve. This will help to avoid your seasoned film getting a metallic taste.

  • Never plunge your wok into hot or cold water.

  • Hand wash your wok after use with a hot soapy cloth. Do not immerse in water, rinse and dry.

  • We do not recommend washing your wok in the dishwasher.

  • To remove stubborn food, fill your wok with warm water and leave for 15-20 minutes. Hand wash with a hot soapy cloth then rinse and dry.

  • To protect your wok, after each wash, thinly coat the inner surface with oil by adding 1 teaspoon of vegetable or corn oil to your wok. Then using a folded sheet of kitchen towel, wipe the oil around the wok.
